Alliant Introduces Carbidic Austempered Ductile Iron (CADI)

February 13, 2013 By acns-admin

When the going gets rough, you need tough parts. Castings that are stronger, tougher and last longer. You need CADI.  CADI is a material that uses a matrix of ausferrite, carbides and nodular graphite to add strength and wear resistance to ductile iron parts. The result is an alternative to conventional steel and iron parts.

The Stronger Solution

CADI has many advantages:

  • A superior engineered iron with longer life
  • Tougher and less expensive than high chrome white iron
  • Can replace manganese steel at an equal or lower cost
  • More wear-resistant than Grade 5 Austempered Ductile Iron

Tough to Beat in A Variety of Applications

Applications requiring longer-lasting parts can benefit from CADI.  Product possibilities included a variety of applications:

  • Agricultural equipment
  • Off-highway vehicles
  • Construction and mining
  • General industrial/material handing/ground engaging

Over the past year, Alliant Castings has made significant investments in new technology and engineering capability. “It’s more than an upgrade,” Tom Renk explains. “It’s about setting a higher standard in an industry that has grown stagnant in its practices. Metal casting today needs a fresh approach, using the best technologies available and the application of innovative thinking. That’s what Alliant Castings is all about.”

Metal casting has traditionally been seen as a “dirty” industry. One of the initiatives Alliant Castings has announced is its commitment to environmental stewardship. The company has coined the term “CleanCasting™” to denote its focus on minimizing pollution and waste.

Congressman Tours Winona, Minn. Metal Plant

September 30, 2011 By acns-admin

WINONA, Minnesota (WXOW) – Congressman Tim Walz toured the facilities at United Machine and Foundry Corp. Thursday, before talking with employees and the company’s owner about the current situation in Washington in regards to a new highway bill.

The metal casting company sells two thirds of its products to the road construction industry, and owner Tom Renk said he would like to see a new highway bill passed and signed into law.

The most recent highway bill, officially titled the Safe, Accountable Flexible Efficient Transportation Equity Act, which funded the building and maintenance of roads and bridges through a federal gas tax, expired in 2009.

The federal government has passed numerous extensions to the bill – including one earlier this month which runs through March.

However the Senate and the House have failed to agree on a long term solution, which Renk said is bad for business.

“The people we sell to aren’t going to go out and spend millions on pieces of road construction equipment if there’s only a short term bill,” Renk said.

“They won’t spend money if they don’t think they’re going to be able to use that equipment effectively,” he added. “But the long term bull would provide some stability.
